Power Yoga Retreat with Bryan Kest

Retreats are just that! We leave our "normal," everyday life and enrich ourselves with an exotic, earthy adventure. I like to describe our retreats as vigorously spiritual and totally amazing in every way. My personal mission is to see to it that you have an amazing "trip!"

There are no prerequisites to attend the retreat, although it would be informative for you to have taken at least a few classes with me to see that you jive with my teaching style. You can take some of my classes online at www.poweryoga.com.

Bryan's Perspective:
All true wellness and health come from a calm and peaceful mind. A calm and peaceful mind is
• Less dominated by habits and addictive behavior.
• Less reactive to outer situations (less stress).
• More centered and objective.
• More accepting of life and its fluctuations.
• More in tune with the body breath, feelings and intuition.
So, the poses naturally need to be infused with a purpose and meaning which brings insight and energy to an otherwise mundane physical practice of poses, or eastern calisthenics. In this way, the poses become asana or "meditation in motion." As we excel in this practice, our yoga begins to transcend the yoga room and permeates our life. In other words, a strong physical practice needs to be grounded in a strong mental practice.

Gina’s Perspective:
To be truly happy in life and to feel complete, balance, health and peace, we must be able to clear our minds and free ourselves from the thoughts that don’t serve us well. We must have the strength and clarity to listen to our intuition and the confidence to make things happen. The life we presently live stems from our past thoughts, words, and actions. Yoga and meditation are tools to help us live a life we all want to live. The more we practice being present, calm, peaceful on the yoga mat, the more we can practice being present, calm and peaceful off the mat… where it matters most.

Join Gina Wasserlein for this week dedicated to immersing yourself in all things that make life a little sweeter : yoga, nature, the ocean, good food and relaxation. Nurture yourself and truly treat yourself with tender loving care. This week long yoga vacation will reawaken yourself to your true nature of real peace that resides within all of us.

Discovery of Self
October 18, 2017 · 3:00 pm -
October 21, 2017 · 12:00 pm
Maya Tulum Resort
Tulum holds a special place in my heart and soul because of the discoveries that I have made while living and visiting this most magical of landscapes. I arrived initially in Tulum seeking to find deeper meaning in my life, but to also heal from my own challenges and soul loss. As a way to go more deeply into my discovery of self and my healing process, I sought the council of others in community to help me on my life’s path. Through meditation, yoga, and other healing practices, I began to learn the art of allowing the larger Self to emerge.

“The Discovery of the Self” Retreat is a way to share ancient teachings that can be applied in our busy postmodern lives; Going into the silence; sitting and walking in meditation; engaging our bodies though yoga; and journaling our experiences are all ways to engage more closely with our Divine Selves. These are practices that I will share as part of the retreat. All of these practices will be part of the sacred landscape of Tulum, Mexico. Tulum is one of the most beautiful settings of any city constructed by the Maya. Dominating the overlook to the sea, the Temple of The castle, is perched on a cliff overlooking pristine beaches and an aquamarine sea.

If you are looking to delve into the self and its vast potential, please join me on “The Discovery of the Self” in this gorgeous place.

Evolutionary Yoga Retreat with Jenni Fox and Paul Gould
January 27, 2018 · 12:00 pm -
February 3, 2018 · 3:00 pm
Maya Tulum Resort
These two popular and gifted teachers return to Maya Tulum for their 26th season welcoming you--both new and experienced students and teachers. Combining 40+ years of practicing and teaching, Jenni & Paul’s yoga continues to evolve, respecting your needs--whatever age-- with intuition, knowledge, respect and intelligence in an atmosphere of compassionate and heart felt support. Says one student (JK of California) “Jenni and Paul don’t force complicated poses on people whose bodies can’t do them. They take me where I can’t go myself, and it always feels appropriate, safe and still challenging for me.”

Enjoy fun, spirited morning practices focusing on functional strength and mobility. Focus is on developing life-long life- enhancing habits with two sets of skilled hands and eyes to help you stay in optimal alignment. Afternoon practices include Restorative Yoga, Meditation and Inner Journey practices.

From Paul: “While we respect the many systems of yoga we have studied and practiced, we focus primarily on the student--who you are, where you are in your life, what you need. From there we focus on awareness of habit patterns, strength and proper movement mechanics. Physically we value working efficiently in correct alignment, breathing fully, resting sufficiently and enjoying the process as hallmarks of intelligent yoga practice that helps us move through life being who we want to be, feeling how we want to feel.”

From Jenni: “We believe flexibility comes from balanced strength. We explore and often create yoga postures based on classical asanas and how they mimic and incorporate everyday movements. Whether someone is new or rusty with their yoga or quite skilled you can love the feeling of athleticism that requires balancing, rotational action and extension --and a strong foundation and core. We often use a variety of tools including balls, foam rollers, bands, poles, massagers, anything that can help stimulate circulation and release and mobilize connective tissue. And most of all, we believe if we're not having fun doing what we're doing it, it's hard to keep doing it!"

These two are grateful for and bring to their teaching their eclectic background of studies including Iyengar®, Anusara®, Yoga Therapy, Zen Buddhist Meditation, the Nia ® Technique, Brad Bartenen’s elite training, Hakomi, RCS (Recreating the Self) methods, trauma therapy and their own ever- evolvoing Yoga practice.

Maya Tulum, with these seasoned instructors, offers a perfect setting to dive deeper into your own practice. The ocean air, quiet surroundings, and good company will allow you to unwind and reset. Quinn and Claire teach a vinyasa flow style practice that is set to inspiring and uplifting music. Claire and Quinn also teach meditation and are passionate about yoga as a life long journey.

CLAIRE MARK
Claire Mark has been practicing yoga since 1996 and teaching yoga since 1999. She has studied many different types of yoga: Jivamukti, Bikram, Ashtanga, Anusara, Vinyasa, and Iyengar. She considers herself to be a yoga-mut, taking in the best of what these different styles have to offer and blending them to create her own unique style. She teaches with compassion and appreciation of the individual yet encourages everyone to challenge themselves and work in a smart, but strong way. Claire has taught in NY, San Francisco, Chicago and Los Angeles. She also teaches yearly retreats in Mexico. One of her greatest joys is leading the teacher training program at Yogaview in Chicago. Claire has studied and continues to study with many senior teachers, and her love of yoga continues to grow with each day on the mat. Claire currently lives and teaches in Chicago at Yogaview and recently opened a modern meditation studio, Chill Chicago.

QUINN KEARNEY
As a teacher for over 20 years I have witnessed first-hand the wonderful, varied, and often seemingly miraculous ways a yoga practice can enhance people’s lives. Along with my friend, Tom Quinn, I opened Yogaview in 2002 with the intention of creating a center where beginners and experienced yoga students alike could come to fall in love with the practice. We have developed one of the most respected teacher training programs in the region and it’s deeply rewarding to see so many of our graduates teaching throughout the city and beyond. I’m just as excited about the many opportunities that Yogaview offers to beginners and hope that everyone who walks through our doors feels welcome. My own practice has been influenced by years of study in the Iyengar and Ashtanga lineages and their offshoots, as well as other functional movement modalities and various martial art forms. The teachings I offer are rooted in these traditional and modern influences, but I try to present them in a non-dogmatic and inspirational way in order to help individuals find their own connection to the very personal and constantly evolving practice of yoga. I also weave my love of music into the practice by creating unique musical backdrops for many of my classes. I’m deeply grateful to the wonderful community of students and teachers who make yogaview such a welcoming refuge.

Praises:

Maya Tulum Retreat with Natalie was a wonderfully unique experience. With voluntary yoga classes twice a day, we enjoyed the friendly, relaxing, and stress-free atmosphere of the resort. My non-yoga practicing husband said, "It was a refreshing change of pace and leave your shoes at home." The beach was within a few steps from your door. There were fascinating daily excursions to Mayan ruins and cenotes. There was even a contemplative labyrinth nearby. The cabanas were quite comfortable with excellent food three times a day that accomodated all diets. A variety of massages were also available. All of the staff were always helpful and friendly.
Without reservation, my husband and I would highly recommend Maya Tulum Retreat with Natalie.

“My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our yoga getaway at Maya Tulum.
!It was just the relaxing vacation that we had hoped for. The cabanas are simple and lovely with the sounds of the ocean to lull one into a meditative state. Days go by swiftly with walks on the beach, healthy and delicious meals, optional trips to nearby sights, and just relaxing to the sound of the ocean waves.
Natalie’s yoga classes are adapted to all levels of experience and everyone is made to feel welcome. Beginning and ending each day with her yoga guidance is a perfect way to round out this relaxing and exhilarating retreat.”
