All Souls’ Day at Maya Tulum

02Nov

Today is All Souls’ Day, a deep-rooted Latin American tradition dating from the Mayan Indians and now celebrated by millions to commemorate the dead by praying for their souls. Take care of your soul today with a rejuvenating yoga practice or healing Mayan spa treatment at our on-site spa, such as the Mayan Honey Xunan Kaab treatment. Priced at $140 for 80 minutes, this treatment features locally produced “virgin honey” famed for its medicinal attributes. The treatment starts with a gentle sea salt exfoliation that will leave your skin silky and soft.  Next, a warm honey back massage deeply detoxifies the body through the blood and at the same time revitalizes and balances the hormonal system. A relaxing full body oil massage completes the experience.

Benefits of a Digital Detox

25Oct

There are many documented benefits to a self-imposed “digital detox,” including being able to sleep better, think more clearly and feeling re-energized. That’s why we encourage all guests of Maya Tulum to unplug from technology while visiting our resort and to get outside and embrace Mother Nature.

A few immediate benefits of a vacation digital detox:

1. Embrace Peace.

When your phone isn’t buzzing in your pocket and you let go of the compulsive need to check email, you can begin to relax, slow things down and breath deeper. Get transported by a good book or take a nap in a hammock. Do nothing – and enjoy it.

2. Connect with Others

When you’re not staring at your screen, it’s easier to strike up a conversation with the stranger sitting next to you, to laugh or even learn something new. Or connect more with your travel partner – share your feelings about this new experience.

3. Think More.

Enjoy the simple pleasure of taking a walk without your phone in your pocket. Delight in the gorgeous nature that surrounds you. Reflect on past journeys or daydream about your next adventure.

Sunrise Yoga, White Sand Beaches, and Aqua Marine Colored Water… A Review from One of Our Yoga Leaders

12Oct

Garth Hewitt and Daniel Stewert co-led a yoga retreat at Maya Tulum and had “an incredible experience.”

Garth and Daniel fun-packed their retreat by going on excursions, leading classes, taking photos, and enjoying everything had to offer.

“I joined the students for several of the excursions. We visited the Mayan ruins at Cobha and climbed one of the highest temples that was ever built by the Mayan civilization. We went inland and explored some of the lagoons and fresh water cenotes, snorkeling and swimming underground in the caves.”

Garth and Daniel also had raving reviews about the food!

“Each morning students would wake up and enjoy a gorgeous buffet-style breakfast with lots of fresh fruit and coconuts…The food at Maya Tulum was so good!”

Plus, Garth was able to capture some magical photos of doing yoga at sunrise courtesy of local photographer Fatima Villarreal!

Check some of them out below:
